従来型トラップは排出能力に1.5倍以上の余裕が必要なため（安全率1.5以上）、1台で対応できるドレン量は最大で20ｔ/ｈｒ位です。従い、上記条件では従来型トラップは、５台並列に設置せざるを得ない状況でした。
